BENGALURU: Union minister and BJP’s Karnataka in-charge Prakash Javdekar accused chief minister Siddaramaiah of casting aspersions on the Supreme Court, which directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take up the case of abetment to the suicide of deputy superintendent of police MK Ganapathi against senior minister KJ George.

Siddaramaiah has come out with all guns blazing against the FIR filed by the CBI, which names George as the first accused in the case.

He drew a parallel with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and said: “There are three cases against Adityanath including attempt to murder. Is he not the CM of UP? Why should George resign, especially when this FIR is only a continuation of the earlier one?”

Siddaramaiah listed out 11 Union ministers, four of whom are of cabinet rank, with serious cases of attempt to murder, inciting communal disharmony and electoral violations.

“According to their own affidavits, 34.7% (98 of 282) of the BJP MPs have criminal charges against them, 11MPs have cases for attempt to murder, 13 MPs have cases related to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony (IPC Section-153A),” Siddaramaiah added.

He also lashed out at BJP state chief BS Yeddyurappa and listed the cases against him.

“After Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, the CBI has diluted cases against Yeddyurappa. The charges against George are purely politically motivated,” he said.

Javdekar, however, retaliated by pointing out that it was Ganapathi’s father Kushalappa who had filed a case in the Supreme Court contesting the clean chit given to George and two senior police officers by the state’s criminal investigation department in the abetment to suicide case.

The case was filed as Ganapathi had given a TV interview an hour before hanging himself in a lodge, naming George, ADGP (intelligence) Ashit Mohan Prasad and UIDAI deputy director general Pronab Mohanty as the cause for any of his “untoward actions.”
