Quinton de Kock scored his highest Twenty20 international score of 59 (44b, 5x4, 1x6) to lead South Africa to a 20-run victory over Bangladesh on Thursday in the first game of the series.

de Kock shared an 79-run partnership with A.B. de Villiers (49, 27b, 8x4) as South Africa piled up 195 for four after winning the toss.

In reply, Bangladesh finished on 175 for nine despite a bludgeoning start in which Soumya Sarkar blasted 47. (31b, 5x4, 2x6) before a review had him trapped lbw to Andile Phehlukwayo, who finished with figures of two for 25 off his four overs.

There were two wickets on his international debut for Robbie Frylinck after a surprise call-up by South Africa for the 33-year-old bowler, including removing Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan for 13.

Bangladesh started with purpose and was averaging more than 10 runs an over before wickets began to tumble and the run rate was pulled back.

The scores: South Africa 195 for four in 20 overs (Quinton de Kock 59, A.B. de Villiers 49, David Miller 25 n.o., Farhaan Behardien 36 n.o.; Mehedi Hasan two for 31) bt Bangladesh 175 for nine in 20 overs (Soumya Sarkar 47, Mohd. Saifuddin 39 n.o.; Dane Paterson two for 29, Beuran Hendricks two for 42, Robbie Frylinck two for 33, Andile Phehlukwayo two for 25).
