PANAJI: Old Goa police on Friday rescued an 87-year-old man who was allegedly locked up in a room at St Cruz.

The friend of the victim approached the police station and complained that his friend has not been given proper medical attention and is confined in a room.

Based on the complaint, Old Goa police accompanied the complainant to the room at St Cruz. When they opened the door, they found the elderly man inside.

Police inspector Ashish Shirodkar said that they have shifted the person to Goa Medical College and hospital for medical checkup, which will indicate whether he was ill-treated or not.

"We have not registered an FIR, and inquiry is underway," Shirodkar said.
