Vishakha Virkhare | TNN | Oct 27, 2017, 03:30 ISTNagpur: Decapitated body of a young man was found dumped in a nullah flowing through a desolate place near Itwari railway station, 2km from Lakadganj police station, on Thursday afternoon. Forensic experts said that the victim apparently belonged to the transgender community and might have been sexually assaulted before being murdered brutally.
An offence of murder has been registered against unknown person. The victim, in 20s, had worn black coloured pant which was down till the knees. Senior police inspector SV Khandekar told TOI, "The body was first sighted by some children. The kids alerted locals who informed control room."
A police team rushed to the spot and also summoned a mobile forensic van. "Forensic experts recovered broken teeth but could not trace the victim's head," the senior PI said and added that the murder took place around a couple of days ago. "The body had already started decomposing," said sources.
The man had tied a black thread in hand while a faint white shirt was found near the body. Forensic experts said stray animals had eaten the private parts of the body. A few condoms were also seized from the spot.
The team also recovered a long iron rod which could be part of a railway track, said sources. Two country-made liquor bottles and plastic glasses were also recovered before the body was sent to Mayo hospital for autopsy.
Cops feel that the victim could have been sexually abused for not identifying as a transgender.
Khandekar said no injury mark was found on the decapitated body. The senior PI added that the accused probably chopped or smashed the victim's head to destroy identity.
Sources said the victim probably had drinks with unknown persons before the murder.
The team is now contacting members of LGBT community to find out if anyone of them had gone missing recently. Cops also going through complaints regarding missing persons.
