NEW DELHI: BSE Midcap index was outperforming benchmark Sensex in Thursday's trade.

The S&P BSE Midcap index was trading 0.56 per cent up at 16,341 around 12:30 pm (IST), with shares of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (up 12.47 per cent) as the top gainer.

Midcap stocks such as NLC India (up 6.66 per cent), Union Bank of India (up 5.31 per cent), IDBI Bank (up 4.75 per cent), Adani Power (up 4.13 per cent), NBCC (India) (up 4.10 per cent) and Castrol India (up 3.86 per cent) were also trading in the green on BSE.

However, Tata Communications (down 4.50 per cent), Torrent Pharmaceuticals (down 3.08 per cent), Canara Bank (down 2.93 per cent), Berger Paints (India) (down 2.88 per cent), Endurance Technologies (down 2.86 per cent), Central Bank of India (down 2.75 per cent), Indian Bank (down 2.14 per cent) and MphasiS (down 2.07 per cent) were among top losers in the BSE Midcap index around the same time.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was 15 points up at 10,311, while the BSE Sensex was up 3 points at 33,046.

Among the 51 stocks in the Nifty index, 29 were trading in the green, while 19 were in the red.

Cipla, Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Coal India, Sun Pharma, Infosys and Tata Steel were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.

On the contrary, ICICI Bank, Power Grid Corporation, HDFC, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel and Hindustan Unilever were the top losers among the Sensex stocks.

On the BSE, 1,342 stocks were advancing whereas 1,130 stocks were lagging and 139 stocks were appearing unchanged.
