Kamalakannan blames lethargy of the officials for slow progress of projects

Education and Agriculture Minister R. Kamalakannan on Wednesday called upon students of Puducherry to make field visits to outlying regions such as Mahe and Yanam to see the development.

The Minister appealed to students of the Department of Home Science to take the lead in this regard since Puducherry and its outlying regions have lot to offer to the people.

He was speaking at a national seminar on “Sustainable Tourism: A tool for development” at the Bharathidasan Government College for Women. Praising the frank expression of views by Nedungadu MLA Chandirapriyanga through a video, Mr. Kamalakannan said the MLA had aired the sentiments of all the 30 MLAs in the Union Territory.

The government plans and allocates funds. But most of the time lethargy on the part of officials causes delay in implementation of schemes.

There were departments which lacked funds. But there were also departments which could not implement schemes in spite of having sufficient funds.

This sorry spectacle had come to embarrass the government and the MLAs. The officials must work at the same speed as that of the MLAs. Bharathidasan Government College for Women would soon have an auditorium at a cost of ₹1 crore.
