Jefferson Fire Company honors first woman Firefighter of the Year
It took 108 years, but Jefferson Fire Company No. 1 recently honored its first female Firefighter of the Year. “I was completely surprised. I always thought the awards go to the men, so being a female I never saw it coming,” said volunteer Firefighter Taylor Knauer of the recognition she received from the Parker American Legion Post 901. “It was definitely a nice honor, and everyone was so gracious about it. To receive this award, you’re nominated by your peers within the company who have previously won the title, and I didn’t realize how much support I had.”

Shayne Gostisbehere will be at the right defensive spot, and Ivan Provorov will be on the left side of the Flyers’ top pairing when the club meets the Senators in Ottawa Thursday night.
