Commissioner warns of tough action against slack approach

Two sanitary inspectors of Tiruchi Corporation have been suspended for failing to act on prevention of dengue mosquito breeding sources.

Both of them were belonging to the Golden Rock zone, which has accounted for about one third of dengue positive cases in the city. Both of them were found to have failed to take effective action to destroy dengue mosquito breeding sources in their respective areas.

Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran said that it was their responsibility to destroy the dengue mosquito breeding sources. However, they did not rise up to the occasion. Tough action would be taken against those following lackadaisical approach on dengue preventive steps.

He said that the Corporation had so far collected ₹ 6 lakh from various persons and builders during the last two weeks for failing to destroy mosquito breeding sources.

Meanwhile, Collector K. Rajamani inspected the anti-dengue mosquito drive in Srirangam and Woraiyur on Wednesday. Accompanied by Mr. Ravichandran and Corporation Health Officer Chithra, he visited several streets to verify the effectiveness of the drive.

Six more persons were tested positive dengue fever in Tiruchi on Wednesday. While three of them were being treated as in-patients in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH), remaining three patients were admitted in two private hospitals. Similarly, 91 more patients were admitted in MGMGH for other types of fever.
