This is Abhinav Kaul and I will take you through the motions of today’s session on Dalal Street and bring you cues and trading tips from market veterans for upcoming trading sessions.

Extending their gains for a third consecutive session on the day of expiry of October derivative contracts, benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty settled at fresh record highs on Thursday.

Buying in oil marketing companies and select metal and pharma counters supported domestic equity markets during the second half of trade.

The 30-share Sensex closed 104 points up at 33,147, while NSE Nifty index closed 48 points up at 10,343.

As many as 33 stocks closed in the green in Nifty index with BPCL gaining over 5 per cent, followed by HPCL, IOC, Cipla and Hindalco.

On the other hand, HCL Technologies, ICICI Bank, Indiabulls Housing Finance, State Bank of India and Ambuja Cements slipped between 2 to 5 per cent.

Shares of Polaris Consulting hit a 20 per cent upper circuit in Thursday's trade after the IT company told stock exchanges that its board would meet on October 31 to consider delisting of its equities.

IPO of Reliance Nippon Life Asset management got subscribed by 7.46 times on Thursday on Day 2.

Shares of Balkrishna Industries witnessed the biggest spike in open interest at 46.35 per cent, followed by Apollo Tyre, Engineers India, Oil India, MRPL, Repco Home, Balrampur Chini and BEML.

The Nifty50 on Thursday continued to form higher highs and higher lows. The index made a Strong Bullish Candle on the daily chart and was on the verge of hitting the overbought territory as suggested by its 12-day relative strength index (RSI).
