Cops invoke MPDA provision against criminal in Chinchwad

Pune: The Chinchwad police have detained a 24-year-old criminal on the police records Avinash Shankar Pawar under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords Bootleggers & Drug Offenders Act (MPDA) for a period of one year.

Pawar was sent to Kalamba prison in Kolhapur. Senior inspector Vitthal Kubade who had prepared a proposal for Pawar's detention said that Pawar was active in Chinchwad area since the year 2012.


He has cases of attempt to murder, body offence, rioting registered against him. Despite of prevention actions, Pawar used to indulge in criminal activities, Kubade said.


Kubade said that due to his terror the people were not ready to come forward and lodge the complaint against him. "Due to which we prepared the proposal and submitted before the Pune police commissioner Rashmi Shukla," Kubade said.


Shukla issued the orders of Pawar's detention under MPDA, Kubade said.


In another preventive action the police have externed the criminal Akasha Lokhande (21) of Bibvewadi out of the city limits for the period of one year. Lokhande has cases of attempt to murder, illegal possession of arms and rioting registered against him with Bibvewadi and Sahakarnagar police. Deputy commissioner of police (zone-II) Pravin Mundhe issued the orders of his externment.
