A 22-year-old girl from Sonepat district’s Devru village filed a police complaint against her brothers for threatening to shoot her dead if she continues to play cricket and study in college.
As per the FIR copy, the girl stated that she was a BA second year student and liked playing cricket in college. However, she said her two brothers forcefully made her drop out from college against her wishes.
“They beat me whenever I express my desire to study and play cricket. My younger brother threatens to shoot me dead if I join college again,” the girl said.
She said she wants to make her own life’s decision and none of her teachers in college or mentors in sports were supporting her. She told police that she wants to stay away from her brothers and continue doing what she likes, but said that she feared for her life.
Based on her complaint, the police have booked her brothers under sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (crime committed with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police said her elder brother works with the state Home Guards while the younger brother is a BA first year student.
“She had come to us with a complaint on Sunday, following which we had verbally warned her brothers to let her study and play cricket. But, when she complained again two days later of the same behaviour, we registered a criminal case against her brothers,” Sonepat sadar police station in-charge Dalvir Dangi said.
