Surat: Six people were booked for abetting suicide of an elderly man in Adajan on Wednesday. They were booked under IPC sections 306, 323, 506(2), 507 and 114 for torturing the deceased mentally and physically to recover the money that they had lent to his son.
Meet A Shah, a resident of Sahastrafana Soubhagya Residency in Pal, was a member of chit fund of Rs 2 lakh and Rs1 lakh being run by Kaushal Koradia, Jaimin Shah, Fenish Kansara, Kevin Koradia, Chirag alias Peter Shah and Jainam Doshi.
Meet took the money out of turn a few months ago and failed to pay the instalments on time which irked others, including the six accused who began to threaten him.
The six accused began to mentally and physically torture Meet's father Ashok Shah, a cloth broker, too. Ashok, who was above 60 years of age, committed suicide by jumping into Narmada river near Ankleshwar on October 11.
He left behind a suicide note referring to the beating up of Meet in their house by the two accused on October 06. They had also threatened to kill the family if the money taken by Meet was not returned at the earliest. A case has been registered at Adajan police station in this connection. A police officer said, "We are making inquiries and will be soon nabbing all the culprits. We have got hold of the suicide note of the deceased."
