One held in Corjuem attack case

Mapusa: Mapusa police arrested Sandesh Marathe, resident of Sonarpeth, Bicholim, for allegedly assaulting Ulhas Redkar at Corjuem, and stealing his gold chain and two-wheeler.

Another accused, Vaibhav Pal, is absconding. Police said Marathe and Pal were tracked down by the scooter details provided by the victim. Mapusa police stated that Redkar, a resident of Mayem, had visited his sister at Canca on Sunday to attend the Bhaubij ceremony.


Around 12 midnight, while returning home on his motorbike, he halted near the Corjuem bridge to answer nature's call. He was accosted by two persons on a scooter. The duo assaulted Redkar and snatched his gold chain.


Redkar attempted to escape, but was overpowered. Police said that Marathe and Pal dumped him, took his motorcycle and fled from the scene. Redkar complained of a total loss of Rs 70,000.


Mapusa police have booked a case against the duo and investigations are in progress.
