The Kozhikode Corporation’s Kudumbasree Community Development Society (CDS) will open its third hostel in the city on Monday. The third in the series of ‘She Homes’ will be opened at Parayancheri while a fourth is already in the pipeline.
The CDS opened its first hostel on Gujarati Street in 2014, which was an instant hit. The second one was opened a few months ago at Govindapuram. Both are fully occupied. The third one too is partially occupied even before the official inauguration.
“What makes the hostels attractive is that they are operated by women, and it gives a sense of security. Besides, they have flexible timings. Hostellers just have to submit a letter from the heads of their institutions if they want the timings to be relaxed,” said Project Officer M.V. Ramsy Ismail.
Reasonable pricing and homely food are the other major attractions. The rooms have a maximum of three occupants. Reading room and library facility are also available.
The fourth hostel will come up close to the fourth platform of the Kozhikode Railway Station and is expected to be a model hostel with updated facilities. The ‘Rail View’ hostel will have online booking facility and free Wi-Fi. The hostel is expected to be opened by mid November. It will also have a mini fitness centre and a conference hall.
Tasty Corner, an upcoming venture of the CDS, will be attached to the hostel. It will cater for not just the residents, but outsiders too.
The existing Kudumbasree hostels have a capacity of around 60 each while the ‘Rail View’ hostel will have a capacity of 100. “It will be a model hostel that will be replicated by the Mission in other parts of the State,” he said.
