A Pakistani High Court has accepted a petition aimed at preventing ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from heading his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party again.
Sharif, 67, was re-elected as the party chief earlier this month after he stepped down as the president of his party following a decision of disqualification by the Supreme Court on July 28 in the Panama Papers case.
Islamabad High Court udge Aamer Farooq on Tuesday admitted the petition and issued notice to Sharif and others.
The petitioner said that permitting a disqualified person to head a political party was against the spirit of the Constitution.
Meanwhile, British authorities did not allow Pakistan’s anti-graft body to collect evidence from the properties in London owned by Sharif and his family members, asking it to use a “government-to-government” channel to get the official information.
However, the National Accountability Bureau managed to record statements of those involved in conducting a forensic examination of the Calibri font used by Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz while presenting “fake” documents to the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers scandal.
