NEW DELHI: Domestic air passengers during the month of September grew by 16.43% with Indian carriers carrying 9.6 million during the month, shows passenger data shared by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The month, which was also the beginning of festive season in India with Durga Puja, saw all Indian carriers in the country flying its planes with healthy load factors. SpiceJet flew its planes with 94.2%, of its seats full, which was highest in the country. GoAir followed SpiceJet by flying 88.5% of its seats full followed by IndiGo at 85.2%.

Commenting on highest load factors, Spicejet said: “This is the 31st month-in-a-row that SpiceJet has flown with load factors in excess of 90% --- a feat unparalleled in global aviation history. Significantly, this is also the fifth consecutive month when our load factors have been 94% plus, which firmly establishes our standing as the country’s favourite airline. We take pride in serving our passengers and will ensure that we continue to serve them even better,” Shilpa Bhatia, Chief Revenue and Sales Officer, SpiceJet, was quoted in the release.

India's passenger growth, which was highest on the world, has slowed down a bit due to lowering of capacity in the market, as a few aircraft of IndiGo and GoAir are grounded.

Among operating flights in time, IndiGo operated maximum number of its flights in time by flying 89.8% of its flights on time followed closely by Vistara, which operated 86.8% of its flights in time.

IndiGo remained the market leader in terms of passenger carriage by flying 38.2% of the total passengers during the month. Jet Airways followed IndiGo in terms of market share by flying 17.7% of the total passengers flown during the month.
