KOCHI: There are cliched and totally over-the-top moments in many films that are often overlooked. But what if they are coined together in a different plot with oodles of humour and sarcasm? That’s what exactly ‘Chekuthane Snehicha Malagha’, a 24-minute spoof by Vaishak Pavanan and Amal Sunny, does. “Chirakodinja Kinavukal, the first Malayalam spoof, was our real inspiration. We have seen many English films in this genre and we found most of them very interesting. So we developed a thread in that format,” says Vaishak.
Great Father, Comrade in America, Neram, Thattathin Marayathu, Sagar Alias Jacky are the main films parodied in ‘Chekuthane Snehicha Malagha’. “Spoofs are not easily accepted, especially when the audience can’t strike a chord,” says Amal. The team first handpicked a volley of cliches from various films and created a plot to fit them all. ““We have tried to spoof the into scenes of hero and heroine. If there is a race no matter who starts first, the hero will finish it first. Similarly the heroine first walks into the screen her hair blown by the wind,” he says.
‘Chekuthane Snehicha Malagha’ opens with a human face roaring out of the famous MGM logo followed by a funny anti-tobacco ad. “It’s a throughout pattern. Youngsters who photoshop their pictures for maximum likes and mothers addicted to daily soaps are also part of it,” says Amal.
Since ‘Chekuthane Snehicha Malagha’ is all about cliches, the storyline cannot be an exception. “It’s the same old subject starting with a boy wooing a girl. They fall in love but she ditches him and marries another. There is also the customary drinking-and-crying session and the hero attending the wedding,” he says.
They add that the spoof has received great response so far. “We got so many calls from the industry, but we were really thrilled when the director of Chirakodinja Kinavukal called. As of now we are planning a feature film and we have our script ready,” says Vaishak.
Anandhu Chandran and Sandra Celine Joseph play the main characters while the entire crew members are third year students of St Joseph College of Communication, Changanassery. “Everything from animation to music, camera and editing are done by our friends,” says Amal. Akash J Joseph has produced the the short film under the banner of Creative Madness. Muzik247 is the official online partner.
