Maintain sanitation, Innocent Divya tells private hospitals

Udhagamandalam: Nilgiris collector J Innocent Divya on Wednesday warned the private hospitals in the hill town against keeping their premises unhygienic and fined one of them Rs 25,00 for disposing of medical waste improperly.


The collector had been conducting surprise inspection drives across the district to monitor the level of sanitation maintained in panchayats and town panchayats in the wake of dengue scare.


On Wednesday, she inspected SM Hospital located on the Ooty-Coonoor main road and found the cleanliness of the hospital was not up to the mark. The medical waste, Innocent Divya said, was not handled in a proper manner. Hence a fine of Rs 25, 000 was slapped on the hospital.


She also instructed the hospital to keep its premises clean and follow the proper procedure while disposing of medical waste and other garbage.
