New Delhi: The Election Commission is likely to announce polling dates for Gujarat Assembly Elections today. Amid the political slugfest surrounding the delay over the announcement of poll dates comes the survey report that the BJP is likely to retain its hold in the PM's home state.

If the India Today-Axis My India Opinion poll is anything to go by, the BJP will likely enjoy comfortable victories in the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, while the Congress and other parties are set to trail saffron party by around 10 per cent of the votes. The survey estimates that the BJP is set to win between 115 and 125 seats in the 182-seat Gujarat Assembly elections.

This conclusion pleased none other than the man himself, who tweeted:

A few key takeaways from the poll, besides a landslide victory for the BJP in Gujarat, include the following:

1. In Gujarat, the saffron party is likely to get 48 per cent of the votes; Congress looks set to get around 38 per cent

2. The BJP is way ahead of the Congress. It is likely to fetch 115-125 seats, while the latter might fetch anywhere between 57-65 seats

3. In the 68-member Himachal Pradesh assembly, the BJP is set to win as many as 43-47 seats; the Congress is likely to win only around 21-25 seats

4. While the Congress is expected to win 57-65 seats in Gujarat, other parties are likely to win just 0-3 seats, which means a poor show is in store for Hardik Patel

5. Around 34 per cent of the respondents prefer the incumbent, Vijay Rupani for the CM post

The survey also revealed that a number of the Modi-led government's economic initiatives have ruffled many a feather among the people of Gujarat. While 53 per cent of the respondents felt that demonetisation had not been beneficial, the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has rubbed 51% of the respondents the wrong way.

Despite that, the Modi wave seems to continue to weave its magic as 74 per cent of the respondents felt the Modi-led government has done well or very well.

While 31 per cent of them felt that there had been no benefits from the Modi government, Gujarat's support for PM Modi remains intact and this is evident in the numbers. As many as 66 per cent of the respondents said Modi's elevation had resulted in huge benefits for the state.
