Former Union Bank of India chairman Debabrata Sarkar joins Bank of India board

Former Union Bank of India chairman Debabrata Sarkar has joined Bank of India board today. Sarkar has been elected as the shareholder director in the Mumbai-based lender.

Sarkar is the lone commercial banker among non-executive members in the bank's board. Former Reserve Bank of India executive director G Padmanabhan is the non-executive chairman of the bank, which is headed by Dinabandhu Mohapatra.

Sarkar, 63, is also an independent director in LIC Housing Finance and member in different company boards.

He started his career in Bank of Baroda as scale II officer in 1982. and rose to the rank of a general manager. He was promoted as executive director in Allahabad Bank in December 2009 before taking charge in Union Bank.
