NEW DELHI: Equity benchmarks closed with robust gains on Wednesday.

The Nifty50 index closed 88 points higher at 10,295, while Sensex settled 435 points up at 33,042.

State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, UltraTech Cement, Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank, GAIL (India) and Tech Mahindra settled as the top gainers in the Nifty50 index on Wednesday.

However, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Bajaj Finance, YES Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC and Lupin settled as th elosers among the Nifty stocks.

PSU bank stocks stole the show today. Punjab National Bank climbed over 45 per cent intraday, while Canara Bank, Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and State Bank of India surged over 25 per cent.

On the other hand, Pharma and realty stocks declined. Piramal Enterprises, Lupin and Sun Pharma remained the top losers among the pharma stocks, whereas The Phoenix Mills, Oberoi Realty and Brigade Enterprises declined up to 2 per cent in the Nifty Realty index.

Bajaj Corp, Bharat Forge, Bharti Airtel, Birla Corporation, Canara Bank, Century Textiles & Industries, Delta Corp, GAIL (India), Jubilant Foodworks, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India and The South Indian Bank hit fresh 52-week highs on NSE on Wednesday.

On the contrary, Alpa Laboratories, Dynamatic Technologies, Khaitan Electricals, Stampede Capital, Tara Jewels and TV Vision hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE.
