Grammy winner to raise money for cancer

BENGALURU: Grammy award winner and creator of the Mohan Veena instrument, Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will be performing to raise funds to provide free nutrition to underprivileged women and children and aid kids with cancer The event is being organised by the NGO Resergene Nutrition Foundation (RNF) at Bangalore Gayana Samaja on November 5, 6pm.
“Every year on Children’s day (November 14), we organise an annual event wherein protein supplements, toys and clothes are distributed to cancer struck children. This year, prior to the event we have organised our first fund raising concert of Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and the amount raised from this concert would be used in the annual event on November 14 to give away toys, clothes and protein supplements,” says M.V Nahusharaj, Director of RNF.
The Mohan Veena instrument is Bhatt’s a desi version of Hawaiian guitar with assimilation of sitar, sarod and veena techniques.Bhatt is the foremost disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar and belongs to the body of musicians that trace its origin to the Mughal emperor Akbar’s court musician Tansen and his guru.
Pandit Vishwa Mohan has performed in the US, Russia, Canada, UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Switzerland, Denmark, Dubai, Al-Sharjah, Bahrain, Muscat and Abu Dhabi.
The veteran has been conferred with Padma Bhushan, Vadya Ratnakar, Padmashree, Sangeet Natak Academy, Musical Scientist Award, Rajasthan Shree, Tantree Samrat and Tantree Vilas among other prestigious awards and titles.
“We are honoured to have Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt to perform for our event,” adds Nahusharaj.
M V Nahusharaj is the driving force of RNF and he was earlier the director of Bangalore Kidney Foundation. He is an 80-year-old music enthusiast. “The event is open for sponsorships and no contribution is too small in the lives of small children with cancer. RNF also has tax benefits for donors,” says Nahusharaj.
