It has been almost eight months since a portion of a retaining wall of a storm water drain (SWD) on Main Channel Street in Shamanna Gowda Layout, Halasuru, was broken to enable a JCB to enter and clean the drain. But neither has the work been carried out nor the broken portion rebuilt, say residents, who are worried about the stench and health hazard the drain poses.
During the recent rains, the drain overflowed. Water, mixed with sewage and garbage, entered several homes. Despite numerous complaints, no action has been taken.
“The wall was demolished by the civic body for cleaning the drain in March. It has been several months, but hardly any work has been taken up. There is no communication from the civic body as to when the work will get over,” said N.R. Satish, a resident of the layout.
Despite bringing the issue to the notice of the councillor, MLA and the BBMP, nothing has been done, the residents said.
“We made an online complaint on Sahaaya, but we were directed from official to another. MLA N.A. Haris visited our layout, met 100 residents and gave instructions to BBMP engineers, but there is no progress. We were told that work will begin after rains stop, but it has been a week since it stopped and work has not resumed,” said Mr. Satish.
When contacted, Mr. Harris said that the work will be completed soon. “The work is progressing and a new concrete retaining wall will be built and the rajakaluve will be de-silted.”
