[India], October 24 (ANI): The government has constituted a commission under Article 340 of the Constitution to examine the sub-categorisation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the central list.
The four-member commission, headed by Justice G. Rohini, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, has commenced functioning on October 11, from its office at the Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, New Delhi.
It has begun meetings with the stakeholders.
The decision was taken on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi i.e. October 2.
In the spirit of his teachings, the government is making efforts to achieve greater social justice and inclusion for all, and specifically members of the OBCs.
The sub-categorisation of the OBCs will ensure that the more backward among the OBC communities can also access the benefits of reservation for educational institutions and government jobs.
The commission is required to present their report to the President of assumption of charge by the Chairperson of the Commission. (ANI)
