The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University in an interim order to bring a college under its wing and include it among the list of centres for homeopathy course counselling for the academic year of 2017-18.

Blaming the exorbitant fees, three female students of SVS Medical College of Yoga and Naturopathy and Research Institute, Villupuram, jumped into a well to commit suicide. This triggered the SVS Educational and Social Trust to file a petition which sought direction for the university’s provisional affiliation in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

“Invoking the above reasoning, there should not be any prohibition for the university to continue the affiliation which was already granted by the university and to include the name of the above institution in the ongoing counselling,” said Justice N Kirubakaran. He added that an interim order has been passed, directing the university to include the college in its naturopathy counselling.

“It is needless to say that the order of disaffiliation dated 21.11.2016 passed by the university is a non-speaking order and the said order had already been stayed by this court,” the judge said.
