Revenue official held for graft

Udhagamandalam: A revenue inspector (RI) of Gudalur municipality in the Nilgiris was arrested on graft charges by the officials of DVAC, on Wednesday.


According to Geethalakshmi, Inspector of Police, DVAC, Abdul Ahadu, a resident of Gudalur owns a shop falling within the Gudalur municipality limit. To obtain electricity connection for his shop, Ahadu needed a NOC from the municipality. When he approached the municipal revenue inspector, Kadhar Basha Khan for NOC, he demanded bribe to issue the certificate.


"Ahadu lodged a complaint in this connection on October 19. We conducted our regular preliminary investigations to ascertain the case", Geethalakshmi told TOI. On Wednesday, the municipal RI was caught red handed by the DVAC officials while receiving Rs 2500 from Ahadu. A case was registered and Kadhar Basha Khan was arrested, said Geethalakshmi.
