India vs New Zeland: Virat Kohli and men beat Kiwis by 6 wickets

India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI: India beat New Zeland by 6 wickets- courtesy  Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik,  Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. New Zealand today struggled a lot while facing the Indian bowlers. Bhuvneswhar Kumar performed outstandingly taking 3 wickets. New Zealand scored 230/9 in 50 overs. India need 231 runs to win the 2nd ODI. The groundwork for this victory was in the backroom, with India working on methods to stop New Zealand’s batsmen from profiting with the sweep shot. They brought in a spinner who bowls flat and wicket to wicket and they also had a pitch that helped the fast bowlers. With that little bit of movement in the air and off the pitch, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah picked up five wickets between them to strangle New Zealand to 230 and thereafter, it was only a matter of some of the top-order batsmen stepping up. Shikhar Dhawan did, with a fifty, and so did Dinesh Karthik, from No. 4, a position that has been difficult for India. Coming to the team combination, India replaced Kuldeep Yadav with Axar Patel. This will not provide an extra dimension to India’s bowling attack but will also consolidate the batting order. New Zealand, on the other hand, is playing with the same 11 and rightly so.

8:50 pm: Dhoni’s backlift is certainly much higher than the last few matches… anyone noticed that??

8:46 pm: World’s best finisher has pulled up his sock, which means New Zeland is in danger. Dhoni hits back-to-back boundaries on Boult’s deliveries.

8:43 pm: Santner to Karthik, no run, beats him!

8:38 pm:  And in walks Dhoni. Dhoni is the best and trustworthy option for no. 4 position.. don’t know why they are trying with Pandey, Kedar, and Karthik. Pandey and Kedar are good option for middle order or even raina and yuvi are also available.

8:33 pm: Santner to Pandya, OUT, sweeps a full toss to fine leg! New Zealand are ginning away at pulling off such a coup, with Santner firing a quicker ball at the pads and Pandya obliging him by picking out the fielder. Still, with only 27 to get in nearly 10 overs, that’s not too costly a wicket

8:30 PM: The 50-run partnership between these two comes in 61 balls.

8:24 PM: FOUR! Short and put away by Hardik Pandya between fine leg and square leg. He was in total control of that shot. Follows it with another boundary, this time through backward point.

8:22 PM: Brilliant batting from these two, especially Hardik Pandya. He is not going after every ball and is rotating the strike well. He moves on to 16 from 21 balls.

8:19 PM: This is turning out to be a good partnership for India. Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya have added 28 runs from 41 balls.

8:14 PM: Fun fact, Hardik Pandya has a higher strike rate in 2017 than Ab de Villiers. He is only behind Moeen Ali in that list. But, ABD bats consistently at number 4 or 5 so its fair to compare the two.

8:10 PM: India need 65 runs from the last 16 overs. With Dhoni and Jadhav still to come, this should be an easy win. However, it is a golden chance for Karthik and Pandya to get good scores and cement their spots in this batting order.

8:05 PM: Adam Milne comes into the attack. He has been the most impressive bowler so far. He had picked 1 wicket from his 6 overs for 15 runs.

8:01 PM: SIX! Pandya opens his arm and clears the rope with ease. He is on his way, this is going to be an exciting finish.

7;57 PM: An interesting decision to send Hardik Pandya up the order. The message is clear that India want to try each and every batsman at different positions to see where they fit in.

7:52 pm: India is having a tough time facing the New Zeland bowlers. Can they pull this off?

7:48 pm: Milne to Dhawan, OUT, chips it straight to extra cover. Loose dismissal. He steps down the track to try and go inside out. It’s back of a length and it looks like he’s late on it. Can’t open the face quickly enough and there isn’t enough room either. It hurries on and hits high on the bat. A feeble end to his innings.

7:35 pm: Santner to Karthik, 1 run, full on leg stump, half stride, driven to long-on.

7:32 pm: Southee to Dhawan, SIX, enough nudging, he decides. This is also an off-cutter and has a bit of shape into him. He uses that to set up early and slogs through the line to get it over the long-on boundary

7:31 pm: At the end of the 25 over India is 126 for 2 wickets. They still need 105 runs from 25 overs with RR: 5.04, RRR: 4.20

7:28 pm: Santner to Dhawan, no run, length outside off, flicks uppishly to midwicket

7:20 pm: Munro to Dhawan, 1 run, length at off stump, pushes it to midwicket’s left and runs through for the single to bring up his 22nd fifty.  With the half-century, Dhawan puts Ind back on chasing track.

7:15 pm: The target of 231 should be like a walk in the park for Indian batting line up. I hope New Zeland bowlers don’t make it a Jurrasic park.

7:10 pm: Munro to Dhawan, 1 wide, Munro has come on, bowled around the wicket, and slid one way down leg side. Dhawan has looked to tap it on its head and paddle it fine. Latham has taken and appealed. It’s been given. Dhawan reviews straight away. Fantastic takedown leg side. But replays show it’s nowhere near. Nothing on snicko either.

7:07 pm: In last 6 overs, India has scored 16 runs. They have slowed down the innings and will try to build a long-standing partnership.

6:46 pm: Dinesh Karthik walks in the pitch, now it is on him and Dhawan to help India reach the target of 231 runs.

6:44 pm: de Grandhomme to Kohli, OUT, caught behind, excellent work from Latham! It’s the cross-seamer, which tends to bounce a touch more if the seam hits the pitch. Kohli, going for a drive, away from his body feathers a nick to the wicketkeeper, who has done really well, standing up. Rising with the ball, taking it ever so smoothly.

6:34 pm: Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan reach 50 runs partnership mark in 50 balls. India need 159 off 222 balls.
