HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Ganga Rao on Tuesday directed the Telangana government and the Centre to respond to the PIL seeking prohibition of auto rickshaws registered prior to 2010 (BS-I and BS-II) to reduce pollution in Hyderabad.
The case was filed by one O Santha Kumar Reddy who submitted that these pre 2010 autos are causing pollution and only such autos which run on LPG and CNG be allowed. Wondering whether pollution has been increasing only because of these autos, the bench wanted the Centre and state government to file detailed counter affidavits stating how much pollution is caused by such autos and how many are plying in the city.
