Centre seeks withdrawal of paramilitary from Darjeeling

The central on Wednesday moved the Supreme seeking the withdrawal of central security forces from trouble-torn Darjeeling in where an agitation for a Gorkhaland has taken violent turns.

The central has challenged the Calcutta High order putting on hold the Centre's decision to withdraw 10 of the 15 companies of the central security forces deployed in the hill district.

A bench headed by Justice J. Chelameswar directed the listing of the central government's petition for hearing on Friday after government's law officer advocate, S. Wasim Ahmed Qadri, sought an early hearing.
