Archery championship kicks off in Vijayawada

About 750 archers from 27 States taking part in the event

The premises of Siddhartha Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology was abuzz on Tuesday with hundreds of young archers from across the country shooting arrows at the target while taking part in the Cherukuri Lenin Volga Memorial 10th Mini (U-14) & 2nd Kids (U-9) National Archery Championship.

The national level annual event for young archers saw the participation of about 750 archers from 27 States. The championship was inaugurated by the MPs Kesineni Srinivas and Konakalla Narayana and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivas appreciated the organisers for successfully organising the national event in the city for the past several years. He said that the young archers participating in the event would carry forward the legacy of late archer and archery coach Cherukuri Lenin.

MP Narayana said that many of the present international archers came to light through the Cherukuri Lenin Volga memorial archery championships being held since 10 years in the city. Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Vice-Chairman and MD N. Bangara Raju visited the venue and interacted with the young archers and inquired about the accommodation and other facilities provided to them.

He also announced financial support of ₹3 lakh to the A.P. Archery Association which is organising the event. The event will come to a close on October 28.
