Furniture, wooden partitions, fans and some office records were destroyed in a major fire that engulfed the Commercial Taxes Office, located on the first floor of the nine-storeyed VUDA administrative building at Siripuram here on Monday.
“We have lodged a complaint with the police and investigation could reveal the cause of the fire. The loss will not be much in terms of monetary value but some records have been lost and,” Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes K. Nagendra said on Tuesday.
Mr. Nagendra said though there were fire extinguishers in place, they failed to function.
The fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Sources in the Fire Department put the loss below ₹10 lakh.
