BCCI joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary 'shocked' after India Today expose on Pune pitch curator

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary said he is shocked with what has transpired this morning after India Today conducted a sting operation on the Pune pitch curator and caught him revealing details about the wicket on camera.

India Today reporters caught the MCA pitch curator Pandurang Salgaonkar on camera allowing people to tamper with the pitch and even agreed to doctor the pitch according to their needs just hours before the first ball is bowled in the second ODI between India and New Zealand.

"The BCCI has zero tolerance on such issues. I am not yet aware of the full thing. I will attend to it immediately and take strictest action. The guilty will not be spared," Chaudhary told India Today.

The Supreme Court-appointed CoA head Vinod Rai told India Today the guilty would be punished. The committee is already monitoring the situation closely after the sting operation broke on India Today TV this morning.

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin has called for a ban on Pune pitch curator Pandurang Salgaonkar.

"Very sad that this has happened. Nobody should be allowed to go to the pitch (before a match)," Azhar told India Today.

Ganguly, President of the Cricket Association of Bengal, wondered if there was any way to stop anyone from visiting the pitch in India.

"I am watching this on TV. I really don't know what Salgaonkar is trying to say. I don't think there is any way of stopping people from reaching the pitch. That is an issue in indian cricket.

"(At this point) I don't have much to say on this as I really don't know what he was trying to do. I don't know how he can tweak the pitch in one day and prepare it accordingly for a bookie.
