Krishnagiri: A CPI member who went missing on Sunday evening was found dead on Tuesday near Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district.
The victim, P Lakshmi Narayanan, 37, of Kandaganapalli near Denkanikottai, was a former panchayat vice-chairman and a realtor.
The Denkanikottai police said Narayanan's wife, Renuka, 31, last saw her husband on Sunday evening speaking to a few people outside their home. As he was missing for some time, Renuka called his mobile phone. "His mobile phone was switched off," Renuka said. She searched for him around the house but he was not there. Immediately, she went to the police and gave a compliant.
On Tuesday, the police found a body with severe cut injuries close to Panchapalli-Denkanikottai state highway. They confirmed it was Lakshmi Narayanan.
The Preliminary probe by the police found that Narayanan had sold his property worth Rs 30 lakh and lent the money to Mahesh Kumar, of Marasandram, a few months ago. As the money was not returned, Narayanan met Mahesh Kumar on Sunday. Later in the same evening, he was seen going in a car with a group of people. "We suspect that the group might have murdered Lakshmi Narayanan," the police said.
A murder case was registered and further investigations are on.
