Two suspected poachers were arrested by the forest department today from the Tiliki reserve jungle, 80 from here, and a country-made gun, a motorbike and a mobile phone were seized from them.
The arrested poachers have been identified as Silama Siba of Bhanjanagara and Pitabash Naik of Gayaganda, said divisional forest officer of Ghumusar (north) Bijay Ketan Acharya.
"Acting on a tip off, a team of forest personnel raided the reserve forest and arrested the duo. During interrogation, they admitted that they had been camping in the forest to hunt wild animals," he said.
It was the second arrest made by the forest department in the past four days.
On Sunday, two people were arrested for electrocuting a wild boar at Balibagada village under Chhatrapur forest range.
The hunters, identified as Herekrushna Nayak of Balibagada and Bansidhara Pradhan of Samiapalli, laid down a live wire to kill the boar, Acharya said.
A joint patrolling was kicked off a week ago by the forest personnel and engineers of Southco, a power distribution company, in view of the increasing cases of poaching with live wires.
Berhampur DFO Asish Kumar Behera said they have decided to intensify patrolling in the vulnerable areas to stop the menace.
