HYDERABAD: Of the 32 CCTV cameras at Modern Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj, only 14 are in working condition. While video of the woman was captured in the hospital’s CCTV camera, the cameras outside the hospital could not record the kidnapper and the newborn’s grandmother E Kalpana getting into an auto-rickshaw along with infant as they were not functional.

Superintendent of the hospital Dr S Nagamani, meanwhile, said the cameras will be fixed shortly. Earlier on Saturday, a nurse had refused to hand over the newborn to the unknown woman when she failed to give a  correct home address.

Security reviewed

Cautioned by the incident, administrations of the Modern Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj and Niloufer Hospital reviewed security arrangements. Meetings were organised with the security supervisors and Police personnel. Currently, there is only one entry and exit point to Niloufer Hospital’s new block.
