BENGALURU: Transport Minister H M Revanna on Monday contradicted a notification issued by the state government quashing the exemption of M1 class vehicles from getting fitted with speed governors.
The minister said: “Neither there is any rule that compels old vehicles (registered prior to 1/9/2015) under M1 class to get fitted with speed governors to obtain Fitness Certificate from the RTO nor any such notification was issued”. M1 class refers to vehicles that weigh 3,500 kg or below and bear yellow number plates. Taxis and Maxi cabs fall under this category.

The minister made the remarks while talking to mediapersons after he held a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) review meeting. However, a fact check on the notification say otherwise. In the website of the transport department, a notification omitting the exemption has been put up. The notification says that the High Court of Karnataka, as per an order dated February 18, 2016 and including the order on interlocutory application dated April 4, 2016 quashed granting of exemption to M1 category vehicles.
