The son of local Congress leader Charanjeet Singh lodged a complaint with the Derabassi police stating that some unidentified persons stopped him while he was on his way home on Tuesday afternoon. The unidentified men later turned out to be a team of the special cell of Mohali police. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) K S Chahal has marked an inquiry into the incident.

Charanjeet’s son Jagmeet Singh, who is a body builder, was going home around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. He alleged that when he reached near Isapur, some persons in a Ford Endeavour car stopped him and misbehaved with him.

Jagmeet lodged a written complaint with Derabassi police. After the investigation, it came to light that the men in the car were members of a special cell of Mohali police and it was led by sub-inspector Santokh Singh.

“The team was present at a special naka to intercept a drug criminal. The policemen thought that Jasmeet was the same man. When they realised that they had stopped the wrong person, they released him,” said an officer of Derabassi police station.
