Mob lynches four criminals in Bihar after businessman injured in firing
Locals chased and caught four of the eight criminals when they were trying to escape and badly thrashed them in Bihar’s Rohtas district. They died during treatment at a primary health centre.

A vigilante mob lynched four criminals who were trying to escape after firing at a businessman in Rohtas district of southwest Bihar on Tuesday.
Rohtas superintendent of police (SP) Manavjeet Singh Dhillon said eight criminals reached Koath Market in Dawath police station area at 7.30am and fired indiscriminately at the garment shop of Vikas Chaudhary, husband of district board member Rinky Kumari. A bullet hit another businessman Niranjan Chaudhary alias Bhulan Chaudhary, Dhillon said.
The locals chased and caught four of the eight criminals when they were trying to escape on three motorcycles, and thrashed them with sticks, rods and stones, the SP said. A police team, which arrived later admitted them to the primary health centre, where they succumbed to injuries, he added. Four other criminals, however, managed to escape, Dhillon added.
The incident took place in Dawath block, 52 km north of district headquarters Sasaram and 128 km southwest of state capital Patna.
The slain criminals, in the age group of 18-25 years, were yet to be identified, Dhillon said.The police had recovered a pistol, four live and four empty cartridges, mobile phones and a motorcycle from the place where they were attacked by the mob, the SP added.
The incident was related to an extortion demand made to Rinky Kumari a month back, he said.
A case for culpable homicide had been registered against unknown persons and police were trying to identify the assailants.
