Malayalam filmmaker I V Sasi dead: Mohanlal to Mammootty, stars pour in their condolences

IV Sasi, a renowned director known for his Malayalam movies, passed on Tuesday at his residence in Chennai. Celebrities and stars across industries have taken to social media to express their condolences. From Mammootty, Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan to younger stars like Prithviraj, Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, many stars were quick to share the grief through their social media channels.

Veteran Malayalam filmmaker IV Sasi passed away on Tuesday in Chennai. The renowned director who has worked with a bevy of stars was also the man whose films were major breakthroughs for Mollywood superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty. The veteran director breathed his last at his residence in Chennai where he was undergoing treatment earlier. He was 69 years old.

A National Award winning director, Sasi has also worked with Tamil superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan several times. In fact, the veteran director introduced Rajinikanth to Mollywood with ‘Allauddinum Albhutha Vilakkum’. As his wife yesteryear actor Seema confirmed the news on Tuesday morning, several celebrities who have worked with the veteran or have been a patron of his work, took to social media to express their condolences. Right from Mammootty, Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan to younger stars like Prithviraj, Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, many stars were quick to share the grief through their social media channels.

In the words of Mammootty, “‘demise of this loved one makes me weak”. Mohanlal wrote, “A great director who celebrated the lives of ordinary human beings. I salute the teacher who made spectators and actors like me students of Malayalam cinema.”

“My friend for 45 years I.V.Sasi is no more. The industry & I mourn a great technician. My support & love to my sister Seema Sasi &family (sic),” tweeted Kamal Haasan.

“RIP Sasi uncle ! He created an Era of his own in Malayalam Cinema. Have fond memories of him from my childhood (sic),” tweeted Dulquer Salmaan.

Incidentally, Sasi began his career as an art director with ‘Kaliyalla Kalyanam’ in 1968. His first directorial venture was ‘Ulsavam’ which released in the year 1975. Some of his best known films are ‘Avalude Raavukal’, ‘Devaasuram’, ‘Guru’, ‘Eeta’, ‘Angaadi’, ‘Anubhavam’, ‘Ayalkari’, ‘Inspector Balram’, ‘1921’, ‘Vellathooval’, ‘Balram vs Tharadas’, ‘Sradha’, amid others.
