A 23-year-old woman was hacked by a man in broad daylight at Erragadda on Monday. Police suspect the man was a scorned lover.
The incident happened at a coconut stall near Rythu Bazar, around 4.30 p.m. According to the S.R. Nagar police, the accused, Ravi Kumar, and his victim Sravanthi, were at the stall drinking coconut water when an argument ensued between them. “Eyewitnesses told us that there was an argument between the two. The woman hit the man with her slipper and abused him. Enraged, he attacked her with the coconut vendor’s sickle,” said S.R. Nagar Station House Officer, Mohammed Waheeduddin.
The woman sustained deep injuries in the arm and head. She was rushed to a private hospital, and later shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where her condition was said to be critical. A senior doctor at Gandhi Hospital said she was unconscious.
The accused attempted to flee the crime scene but was nabbed by the public and handed over to the cops.
The police official said the woman, a resident of S.R. Nagar, married about one and a half years ago. After her marriage, she had approached the police to complain against the accused.
