Combined efforts sought to combat dengue

Principal Secretary visits CMCH, private hospital and residential areas

Harmander Singh, Principal Secretary to the government, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, also monitoring officer for Coimbatore, on Monday conducted an all department meeting to review the measures taken to prevent dengue in Coimbatore.

At the meeting, the senior bureaucrat urged all departments to take collective action to prevent mosquito breeding and thus combat dengue.

Accompanied by the District Collector, Corporation Commissioner and officials from Health Department, Mr. Singh visited Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), a private hospital and residential areas of Vilankurichi.

At CMCH, Mr. Singh visited dengue ward, fever ward, casualty, laboratory and hospital premises to assess preparedness taken to handle dengue cases. He interacted with doctors and patients at the fever ward. Relatives of some of the patients also interacted with the official.

Officials, who attended the review meeting, said that Mr. Singh urged all government departments to keep their offices free from breeding sources of mosquitoes. He also directed Health Department, civic bodies, local bodies, and the PWD to focus on source reduction works at places where people are detected with dengue. Officials have also been asked to take immediate measures to clear garbage stuck in drainages and other places prone to clog water.
