NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 1.05 per cent up at 1, 656 around 01:05 pm (IST) in Tuesday's trade, extending the gains for the third consecutive session.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 29 points at 10,214, while the BSE Sensex was up 84 points at 32,591.

Shares of Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (up 4.95 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 4.37 per cent), Aksh Optifibre (up 2.67 per cent), Bharti Infratel (up 1.57 per cent), Tata Communications (up 1.49 per cent), Idea Cellular (up 1.43 per cent), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 0.74 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (up 0.50 per cent) were trading as the top gainers in the telecom space.

However, Reliance Communications (down 1.41 per cent), GTL (down 0.69 per cent) and GTL Infrastructure (down 0.48 per cent) were losing gin trade around that time.

State Bank of India, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, NTPC, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Hindustan Unilever and Maruti Suzuki were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.

On the other hand, Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro were among the top losers in the Sensex kitty.

On the BSE, 1,468 stocks were advancing whereas 1,121 stocks were lagging and 118 stocks were appearing unchanged.
