Dinakar Babu, president of the zilla panchayat, said on Monday that Kittur Rani Chennamma was among the foremost women who sowed the seeds of independence in the minds of the people of the country.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Kittur Rani Chennamma Jayanti organized by the district administration, the zilla panchayat, the Department of Kannada and Culture and Navachetana Yuvaka-Yuvati Mandal, here. Mr. Babu said that Chennamma wanted people to be independent and lead their lives with self respect. Chennamma’s life and achievements should be a model to all women, he said.
In her special lecture, Nalinidevi M.R., Lecturer, Government Pre-University College, Hiriyadka, said that Chennamma showed exception courage and confidence during her childhood and grew up to be a strong leader.
The way she led her life, stood for her principles and led her struggle against the British should inspire all the people of the country.
Her life also showed that it was not enough just to have confidence, one should also know how to handle challenges depending on the situation, she said.
Meenakshi Bannanje, President of Udupi City Municipal Council, Nalini P. Rao, President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Sanjeev M. Patil, Superintendent of Police, Shivanand Kapashi, CEO of zilla panchayat, and others were present.
