Guitarist Scott Putesky, who as Daisy Berkowitz was a founding member of rock band Marilyn Manson, is dead after a battle with colon He was 49.

His death was announced by the Jack Off Jill, an American band who Putesky often collaborated with, reports variety.com.

Singer Marilyn Manson also paid tribute to Putesky. "Scott Putesky and I made great music together," Manson wrote on Instagram.

"We had our differences over the years, but I will always remember the good times more. Everyone should listen to 'Man That You Fear' in his honour. That was our favourite."

Putesky and Manson met in Florida in the late 1980s and formed Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids.

The group was signed by Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor to his Nothing label in 1993 and released its debut album "Portrait of an American Family" the following year, along with "Smells Like Children".

According to variety.com, he left the band during the recording of their second full-length "Antichrist Superstar" over creative differences. Helater sued the band for unpaid royalties.

Putesky then worked with Jack Off Jill, Kill Miss Pretty and his band Three Ton Gate. He was diagnosed with colon in 2013.
