Filming of Sony Pictures’ ‘Spider Man’ spin-off ‘Venom’ has finally started and a picture from the sets quietly landed on the internet. The official Twitter account of the movie shared a photograph and confirmed that the production of the highly-anticipated movie has begun.

The picture shows Tom Hardy, who plays the titular character, looking very happy on the sets. He is smiling and looking at a man who is penning down something while sitting. There is nothing much else one can glean from the photo so it is most likely first of the set photos to come in next few months. The character of Venom, who is also known as Eddie Brock, was last portrayed on the big screen by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 in 2007, which starred Tobey Maguire, James Franco and Kirsten Dunst in other lead roles.

In May, Tom Hardy, known for playing Batman’s archvillain Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, was announced to play the traditional ‘Spider-Man’ villain in Sony Picture’s upcoming film focused around Eddie Brock, the first character to become the alien symbiote in the comic books. The script of the movie has been penned by ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.

Venom is one of the most famous villains of Spider-man and is a fan-favourite. Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are producing the film, and Ruben Fleischer directs it. Tom Hardy is also known for films like ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and ‘The Revenant’.

The comic-book flick also stars Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Reid Scott. The movie is slated to be released in theatres on October 5, 2018.
