A 22-year-old youth, who took part in a feast organised by the local MLA for celebrating brimming of a tank, drowned in the same waterbody on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil (22), a resident of Bamboo Bazaar in Chintamani. Local MLA M Krishna Reddy of JD(S) had organised “Vanamahotsava,” a massive feast to mark the brimming of Kannampalli tank, which supplies water to Chintamani town. More than 30,000 people had food at the feast. Sunil, who had come to take part in the event, went for a swim in the tank but met a watery grave. Fire and Emergency Services personnel retrieved the body. The town police have registered a case.
