The Kerala government on Tuesday issued a circular to the principals of government schools in the state, directing them to celebrate the birth centenary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder and RSS ideologue Deendayal Upadhyay.
The circular, issued by Director of Public Instruction, states that the decision has been taken based on the directions of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.
The circular clearly lists the various programmes to be celebrated as part of the birth centenary celebrations at upper primary and secondary levels. The circular suggests fancy dress, poem recitation, singing patriotic songs and storytelling for upper primary students. At the secondary level, students have been suggested to prepare write-ups on various Deen Dayal Upadhyaya schemes or hold discussions about the abolition of the Zamindari Act.
Deen Dayal Upadhyay was born on September 25, 1916. The Director Of Public Instruction had forwarded the circular to all school principals after consulting with state government and education minister.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Students Union has started statewide protests against this new move.
