ELURU:Expert committee on Polavaram project inspected the Polavaram project site on Monday and reviewed the progress of the ongoing works. The visit of nine-member committee led by chairman Majid Hussain gained significance as a high level review meeting on the project is going to be held in Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari.
The expert committee inspected the progress of coffer dam and spillway works and enquired the details of the progress of works from the officials. The expert committee interacted with Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Polavaram Project chief engineer V S Ramesh Babu and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, committee chairman Majid Hussain said that they would submit a report to the Union Ministry of Water Resources soon. He said that the committee visited the project site in April.
Devineni Uma said that CM N Chandrababu Naidu is keen on completing the project as per schedule. He said that before leaving for foreign tour, the Chief Minister met Union Minister Gadkari and explained the progress of project works. The CM suggested five options for speedy completion of the project.
Opposition has no right to speak on Polavaram: Uma
Eluru: Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has said that the Opposition has no moral right to speak on Polavaram project. The Minister said that the previous governments have not taken any interest in taking up Polavaram project works and only after the TDP came to power in 2014, the project works have started moving at a brisk pace. “YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has been trying stall Polavaram project works by instigating people to file petitions against the project.”
