Zilla Parishad irked as Collectors fail to turn up for general body meet

SANGAREDDY: Zilla Parishad general body meeting expressed anger against three district collectors working in the united Medak district.At the general body meeting of ZP held on Monday and presided over by ZP chairperson A Rajamani, Sangareddy Collector Manik Raj Kannan, Medak Collector Bharathi Hollikeri and Siddipet Collector P Venkatram Reddy did not turn up and both ruling and Opposition members expressed dissatisfaction on their absence.

Joint Collector Vasam Venkateshwarlu attended on behalf of Sangareddy and nobody represented Siddipet and Medak districts. Member Srikanth Goud and Prabhakar Reddy said ZP meetings are held every three months to bring the problems of people to the notice of the higher officials, but the officials don’t have respect towards the meeting. They questioned how it will work when higher officials are not serious about th eissues and added that conducing meeting for namesake is not correct.

All the other members supported dissatisfaction expressed by Congress and TDP members. Members alleged that Siddipet Collector has been absent continuously for the third time.Ruling party legislative council whip Pathuri Sudhakar Reddy said members have come here to get the problems of people solved and if the deciding officers are absent there is no use of conducting the meeting. He proposed that a resolution should be passed in the meeting so that it becomes mandatory for Collectors to attend ZP meetings in future. He added that if Collectors are busy with emergency works, they can send joint-collectors in their place. He told joint-collector V Venkateshwarlu to convey their concern and dissatisfaction to Sangareddy Collector.

Responding to the comments, the JC said Collector Manik Raj Kannan could not attend the meeting due to illness.Sangareddy MLA Chinta Prabhakar also expressed dissatisfaction indirectly on the absence when members of Opposition and ruling parties were arguing.Ruling party MLAs Babu Mohan, Bhupal Reddy and also MLC V Bhupal Reddy didn’t raise their voice on the absence of the Collectors. Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and Deputy Speaker M Padma who attend every small meeting were also absent for the ZP meeting.
