ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. European Council President Donald Tusk said on Tuesday (October 24) that the remaining members of the European Union must remain united during Brexit negotiations "regardless of the direction of the talks" as their failure "will end in our defeat." As he was addressing the Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, he added that it is ultimately up to London whether the negotiations end in a "good deal, no deal or no Brexit". Talking at the same plenary session of the EU Parliament, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said the EU executive was not negotiating with London in a hostile way and assumed that the EU and Britain will reach a fair deal on Brexit. At a summit on Friday (October 20), EU leaders moved to speed up talks and spoke of opening a new phase in December.
